 Continuing the effort to make some minimal use of the hard earned wifi monster, downloaded some more comfort movies from the golden age.

Honey I shrunk the heroine was really just about the hottie 18 year old Amy Oneill.  She came unto her own when the survival instincts kicked in.  The heroine survivalist formula made lions optimistic about Send Help.

 

 

 Cropping was horrendous.

 They used a lot of composition tricks, having him on stand on steps, photographing the wife from behind to create forced perspective, having her bend over, to make Rick look reasonably tall, but the wife was a lot taller than him no matter what they did.  This couple wouldn't exist today.

   The hottie looked like a stuck up classmate during that time.  She married a chief marketing officer & became a teacher.  She wasn't as easy on the eyes after 40.  $3k teacher pension + executive compensation.  It was executive/doctor/lawyer + teacher/nurse across the board. They were really good at picking the over achievers & now they're all top 5%.

The Burbs was really about Bruce Dern & Tom Hanks being able to sit around in giant cozy houses with nothing to do.  That was the end game for a long time before the great inflation. Homeowners these days are earning their situation, every waking minute.

The story was in Iowa.  The filming was all on a custom built culdesac in Burbank.  There are some garbage houses in Iowa which would probably be cheaper than certain rents, over 4 years, for someone with money to burn.  Nothing like the movie culdesac of course.  That required a dual income power couple in real life, though Tom Hanks was still shown as the breadwinner.

Bee swarm scene matched the 1 time lions ran down the hill from a swarm of bees & hosed themselves.  That hose is no more.

Lions didn't know princess Leah was in this one.  She was her usual butchness but still playing a housewife.

Animal crackers with cages.  The background contains a warner bros sound stage & 3800 Alameda highrise.

 

Blast furnace prop was quite the piece.  In hindsight, the only thing it could have been was a cremation furnace.  A smaller furnace like the one in the movie would have been used for animals.

The next easily downloaded great movie was Exorcist.  The lion kingdom would be staying across the river from where it all happened. 

It's such a monumental work of the light of consciousness, lions would be forgiven for thinking it really happened there.

Quite the foreshadowing.  Young lion thought the archeologists dug up the spirit which possessed Reagan & it came from the statue itself.  It was just foreshadowing, but lions would still be freaked out by such a statue.  The movie prop must have freaked out the crew.

Unfortunately, it's a bit too dark to watch again.  Lions last watched it fully in the 80's & fragments in syndication in 1999.  It had a much more visceral feeling than other movies & much more than anything made now.  Part of the terror was from something that old being so unnaturally compelling.

Circling back to light content, the internet recommended the Peanuts movie

Kind of a long, slow fluff piece in keeping with the comic.  Like Xmas story, a lot of unrelated, random events in parallel with the 1 great task.  It was hard for lions to believe it was all made by manual modelling & keyframing 8 years before everything became AI.  It would never be done manually again.

Slogging through 77 minutes of Charlie trying to hit on the hottie at 2x, lions pondered if only he knew 2/3 of the men in the world never have relationships & it's so extremely rare, rejection is hardly meaningful at all.  The dating rate might have been higher in 2015 when the movie was made.  Most of the hook ups on the internet seem to date back to 2010-2015, right when lions were getting told to fuck off in spades. 

Like the rest of the economy becoming a spectator sport after 2015, dating might have become a spectator sport after video quality improved.
