The lion kingdom still sees this scene as it looked on VHS, even when it's in HD.  It just looked a lot better than other VHS recordings.

 9/2025: Surprised to find only 6 years passed between the last Goonies
screening & the compelling desire to watch it again.  The internet
promoted the hell out of it for the 40th anniversary.
 
 


 
 
 
 
 
 

The house exposition always worked for lions because most every day
started drizzly, cloudy, & cozy like that.  Most of today's west
coasters grew up elsewhere & don't have the same connection.  Neither
could young lion ever sleep in like now.  Parents put him to bed early &
despite the hours of flashlight reading & radio listening, he was wide
wake by 8.

 



The biggest downer was the way they had to surrender all the gold.  A
downer to 11 year old lion, but especially to 50 year  old lion.  They
could easily have been written to keep at least some of it.  After Sloth
got the situation under control, they could have picked the gold back up
as they ran out.  

Helas, the actor blocking had Fratelli strategically placed between the
heros & the gold.  Still think Sloth could have done it.
 
 
 
The bits with the pizza & the camera during the reunion were more WTF
moments to old lion, though young lion enjoyed them.  Young lion always thought they were over celebrating something so minor.

A mass media reporter announcing what appears to be a pirate ship really
popped to young lion but now appears very dated.
 


We can gather Willie's final act was to sail off until the ship
eventually sank with the treasure in an unknown location.  A sequel
might have involved the effort to find either the sunken treasure or the
still floating ghost ship.  There could also have been a prequel showing
the spanish armada off the coast of Astoria.

Too old lion, the idea of the spanish armada battling off the coast of
Astoria was kind of fascinating.  It would have been a logistical
miracle in those days.



There was a subplot of the father being a riteous, low paid, government
worker.  They're definitely not viewed like that now.  A government
worker is now someone on easy street.


 
 
 
 
Always noted how the teenager politely stepped around the old hag
instead of knocking her into the water. 

Honestly, the 1st 50 minutes of that movie were the juiciest & most
analyzed by the internet.  Once the exposition, the house, Chunk's
banter with the Fratellis were done & they were on their merry way in
the tunnel system, it was batshit boring.  

The love story between the teenagers, the plumbing gag, the mens room
gag, were a lot more painful at 50 than 11.  The thing is a lot of those
gags needed to happen to get the desired outcome.  The plumbing had to
blast a hole in the wall.  They had to embark into the tunnel to escape
the Fratellis.  The love story was necessary to sustain the conflict
between bailing out & continuing.




You're going to experience prolonged absence of sunlight in that place, despite the illusion on the internet.  Young lion took it & had no problem staying indoors day after day in that climate, but old lion might have problems.

    It was time to take on the lion kingdom's 1st 1 star movie. It honestly wasn't as bad as the Dictator, Bedazzled, Monty Python.  Most of the hate was from comparing it to the classic.  Visuals were good for animals who are into castles.  Wonder Heroine as the villain was a good twist.  It was bat shit boring.  Tedious jobs like dialog writing are all automated now & that's definitely not as bad as other movies.  Automated 3D model generation has made modern visuals very lavish.  If only that level of detail could be done in realtime for VR goggles.    Zegler was back from her previous engagement in district 12.   The mane redeeming factor for lions was evil Wonder Heroine.     & finally the Joan of Arc scene everyone hated.    & the ending just fizzled.  It seems they're trying to depart from the physicality of past heroine warriors & make them more like housewives.  It's h...

  The lunar eclipse situation. Diced tomato spagetti 2.  Plain noodles shining through the diced tomatos, meatballs, oregano, pepper, & cheese still has what it takes.  It's better than watered down sauces with tiny bits of meat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once again pondered if the S & P is another Nikkei 225. The nikkei is back where it last collapsed, 40 years ago, with a similar rate of increase in the last 25% but slower in the preceding years.  Maybe the index fund play has worn out or maybe it hasn't.  Finally tracked down the Sun bootloader font from many decades ago & put it in Cinelerra as gallant12x22.  Put Sun Gallant Demi into the goog to get useful results. https://github.com/dim13/gallant/tree/master/ttf   It's a fixed point font in an archaic format.  Some guy converted it into a TTF with a lot of antialiasing.  He has a PNG image showing no antialiasing.  It has to be set to size 22 & requires a threshold to get rid of the antialiasing.  Freetype might be shifting it 1/2 pixel vertically. It had a kind of curiosity value, but lions have had no need for any fixed point fonts besides the 24pt Sony of CAEDM fame. Another hit said it was 1 of the fonts available in kernel framebuffer mode.  Lions haven't used kernel framebuffer mode in decades.  It could possibly replace 24pt Sony if lions wrote a fixed point converter.
