The very very very last 8 minute mile before the big day was really solid, except for the usual sciatica. The big unknown is maximum speed while managing sciatica. Managing it with an eccentric stride has been able to keep a sub 9 minute pace of some sort. It needs to be way below 9 minutes to hit all the water stops.
Helas, whatever the time is, finishing will be equally momentous.
The weather continued trending wetter & colder. It's going to be 2 days of aimless walking without the truck. That's when the tours are going to happen. The truck is only going to be useful on race day & night for some walks.
The Thu night forecast was drier & colder & justified bringing the truck. It's important to cover the camera in a ziplock bag as soon as it rains. Any water is going to corrode the flat flex connectors right away. There will be tools for accessing & drying the inside. There were never any tests of the effect of a minimal waterproofing tape on cooling. It would obstruct the ports & button.
Lions pondered BARFing all the way from Walnut or parking in Millbrae again. BARF from Walnut is always 70 minutes BARF + 30 minutes driving. Driving to Millbrae is 45 min driving + 20 minutes BARF. Driving from Millbrae during rush hour is 20 minutes BARF + 2 hours driving.
BARFing all the way would be 5 minutes less, in total. 35 additional minutes on the outgoing trip & 40 fewer minutes on the return trip, assuming worst case traffic. Traffic could be better or worse. The price difference is negligible.
Lions are somewhat nostalgic for the 1st time they took that long train ride, 17 years ago. Lions are generally in more of a hurry on the inbound trip, making the extra driving time more painful than the extra BARF time.
New dance
The problems of the past feel like nothing compared to the problems of the future. Lions would happily reset to any point after 1997, with prior knowledge of what was coming. The shawshank sewer was really before 1997 but even then only pockets. The hardest part would be not changing the outcome. Applying prior knowledge would send the past down an unknown path.
