Anyways, a plan evolved to make the swap channels plugin have another column for source layers.  That's going to be thousands of times easier than slinging masks in Gimp.  Showing the names of the shared tracks in the plugin would be difficult but useful, lions believe.

The problem with that is the names & number of shared tracks depends on the playhead position, what tracks are playable, whether it's a rendered effect or in an EDL.  The GUI could have to show no tracks if the playhead is over a section with no plugin.  There are cases where the number of shared tracks changes over time.  There could be assumptions that the shared tracks are always constant over the duration of the GUI instance of the plugin.

 

All the other plugins just specify 1st track, last track, or an ordering of tracks.  A track number up to some arbitrary limit seems to be the only useful way of doing it.  It's believed swap channels will never be shared with more than 2 tracks & only the alpha will ever be transferred between tracks.  It's going to be easiest to transfer the RGB channels with addition, but there's no other way to transfer the alpha.  The number of channels is going to limit the useful number of shared tracks to 4.  There's no reason to support more than 4 shared tracks.

Another idea which popped up was a preview in the "attach transition" dialog.  The embedded playback engine has worked well enough in the file dialog to start deploying it elsewhere.  It would use a synthetic EDL just to show the transition.  The easiest way to get source footage is making more rendering effects.  A checkerboard or grid creator might generally be wins.  This requires experimentation.

It would be quite difficult to have baked images or get a project from the plugins directory.  It might be the easiest way, though.  The user could definitely change the source footage more easily.  There could be an example EDL for each transition in the plugins directory.

Helas, it would only exist for video.  Practical transitions for audio beyond crossfade seem to be fictional.  There could be a fade out, fade in but it would never be used.  Interpolate as a transition might be useful.  It was an effect because it was only ever for defeating glitches.

A preview for the effect dialog would be another win, but there's no room for one.  Shared effects & shared tracks could be shrunk & replaced with a preview area.  Then the problem is tweeking the plugin GUI for the preview without a timeline.  An example EDL for each effect, with most useful parameters, would be essential.  The plugins directory would be quite large, but it's not unprecedented for programs to have large metadata directories.

There's still no plan to extend the resource window.  Lions have just never gotten any use out of the drag & drop patterns or clips.  The only thing the resource window has ever done is delete, view, & paste the source files.

1 problem is no-one else uses the program but there are plenty of spectators who experiment with it & complain from the sidelines.  Often times, the companies which hype these essential features end up scrapping them though.  Most feature requests are experiments they never intend to use.

Catching up with the last Tori Amos songs, it's bad out there.  They all sounded the same after 2010, just running out the clock.  She didn't give 3 shits of a fuck after hitting a certain level of wealth.  As with all female celebrities, it's shocking to find out how short she really is.  5'2"  The way they're photographed always creates delusions about the stars being really tall in younger years.
