The era of the corded mouse is all but over with modern variable height, super slippery desks but the lion kingdom figured it would try to get as much life as possible out of this one with a more optimum cable layout. The sideways cable avoids impacting the keyboard & is shorter than going down the rear. It interferes with the pinky finger, but only about as much as it interferes with other objects in every other orientation. It might be a matter of getting used to the pinky finger interference. The best mouse lions ever used was of course the 1985 Microsoft mouse. "grey eyed" That had excellent button clicks & friction even on bare wood. The angle of the buttons around the corner was what did the magic. This business of fabric covered EVA is all about getting the perfect friction.
