Finally watched Top Gun in HD, 6 years after downloading it.  It got on the hard drive in 2018, when news of the sequel rounded the internet.  Then the sequel was delayed many years.

Lions got turned off by interviews revealing how much of a steaming pile of dog turd the original edit was until all the dialog in the dogfight scenes was rewritten by professional pilots.  Theoretically, there originally wasn't any dialog & they were just flying patterns.  It looks really good in HD.  Lions need to step up their color gradient game & golden hours.

The heroine was harder on the eyes than 40 years ago.  She had to be short like all Tom Cruise costars.  Trippy to see a young Tom Cruise as still a struggling unknown actor.  Being manely practical footage & the heroine being under 50 made it a cut above the sequel.

For some reason, a Casio F91W got the lion kingdom's attention.  Seeing the same watch 40 years ago just ties it into the present.  It conveyed a simple life of a military man.  Very little looks out of place today.  It would be hard to date the movie without prior knowledge. Only 1 scene had any vehicles of the time.  The motorcycle doesn't look out of date to animals who aren't experts in motorcycles. It looks crisp & sharp, the way lions remember the 80's. Most movies from that time now look crusty.

Lions have never had the stomach or the room to just burn $12 on a vintage Casio.

The only thing lions could use any watch for is pacing a loop course, but a vintage Casio wouldn't do the job.  It needs to keep a count of laps in addition to timing the last lap.  A phone wouldn't last long enough.  Lions used a dedicated stopwatch for years until sweat killed it & phones started doing a better job.  That would have been the time to go for a vintage Casio.

There was a concept of putting a custom board in a Casio.  A custom PCB could do it but it would be the most expensive watch ever made.  The problem with home made boards is corrosion is going to kill the copper pads & they need plated edges for the buttons.  The best idea is to go into alarm setting mode, increment the minutes as a counter & the hours after minute 60.  It just requires counting in base 60 & not having access to the stopwatch.

The depiction of Dustin Hoffman using a dedicated stopwatch in Marathon Man wasn't very practical. It was mechanical but sweat would have killed it & it would have been heavy.

The lion kingdom wasn't after any movie locations in central park.  Marathon Man  was an overplayed, crusty, syndicated movie.  The robot just happened to get some similar locations.  The building in the movie was on the north side, but the south side looked similar.  The stairway was the one in the movie.  The path on the east side was the path in the movie.  Most of the movie was shot around the north side of the reservoir.

This scene was a different lake.

The path seemed more manetained & wider than it was in the movie.  Lions wouldn't call it suitable for running fast.  The movie depicted a much seedier era, when the neighbors were unwilling to help the guy out unless he surrendered all his belongings & staying out too late could get you mugged.

The goog depicted a more recent but even drearier time in the same place.  Maybe it's not so bad if you don't need to get around or work.  It takes lions back to a colonial & simpler time.  Even in those days, the residents had to be quite wealthy.  Contrary to the book, Alcott never lived in New York.

Besides being the movie that scared a generation away from marathon running, lions just pondered how easy it would have been for him to avoid the ordeal.  He knew bad guys came after his brother & they were coming after him.  Why didn't he keep his gun with him at all times, in the bathroom?

The average employee generates so much more revenue than 40 years ago & makes so much less than the CEO, they should have tons of downtime.  The real question is whether the downtime should go to open source projects instead of bullshit projects.

This has been the secret to rapid recovery. 2 cups of whey after a hard effort, refrigerated overnight, are weapons of massive overcompensation. The ideas of adding carbs to this have been overrated. For one who eats during long efforts or right before, the modern diet is extremely overloaded in carbs but doesn't have enough protein.
