Was the lion kingdom's education worth it?  In terms of a paper GPA & paper degree it was absolutely a waste.  In terms of making connections that led to the 1st day job, becoming wealthier than most of the animals on this shithole planet & early retirement being 1 possible outcome, it was arguably worth it.  The university wouldn't use lions to sell their degree programs, but a rival university wouldn't use lions to turn students away from there, either.  Lions would be a typical outcome that students can expect. If the lion kingdom didn't go to BYU, it was unlikely to ever to be exposed to the things, UNIX & music, that led to its 1st day job, might have stayed the course in life sciences & had a very difficult life.  UCSB didn't have the combination of money, facilities, & students although dating would have been different.  It was easier to see the complete picture after becoming more financially secure. The government ranks educatio...

Continuing the hits of the 80's, it was the 1st viewing of Who's afraid of virginia woolf in over 35 years.  Young lion never really got it.  Kiwipedia finally explained it's a study of reality & illusion.  The son in the movie never existed because the couple was infertile.  They tell themselves illusions to distract themselves from the grim reality.     The star of the show over time became the house. 1 of the other original Smith college buildings is still there. Its location in the middle of a centrally located open space symbolized someone who had come of age, achieved all his professional goals & financial security.   Lions never knew if the tree was on his front yard or some kind of park.  Old lion could imagine a tree with a swing being a bucket list item. It's brightly lit interiors were really cozy.  Every corner was fully lit & at the ready.  It became the inspiration for brightly lighting all lion apart...

Ego Monger is the lucky one again.  That's why the central coast is the most prized real estate in the world.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Screencap improvements continued slowly.  The big problem was creating a freetype wrapper.  The affair reminded lions of the time they made the timeline draw vertically to pack in more frames of widescreen video.  That feature was never used, but it entailed drawing text in offscreen pixmaps, reading back the pixmaps, rotating them, & drawing them again. In modern times, vertical text would all be drawn with freetype.  In the old days, it would have been extremely slow to use freetype compared to screencapping offscreen pixmaps.  It probably could have used its own font renderer to draw a fixed point font. The big question was where to draw the keypresses.  When no cursor is captured, the text needs to be in a ...

More sandals ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ https://darrenfoulds.com/darrenfoulds/podcasts/ More 8 bit show & tell.  Kind of annoying always hearing 8 bit show's fat fingers fidgeting & Darren Foulds has a serious case of dry mouth. https://darrenfoulds.com/podcasts/gu80s/ep03-GU80s-C64Ref.mp3 In this one he said his C64 arrived in March 1984.  The lion kingdom's arrived between July 1984 & that fall.  An atari briefly came that July.  It was tape only until some point in 1985 so pretty useless. It was always a development platform.  The games on tape were too slow to load.  The games on cartridge were pretty bad. 8 bit has over 40 C64's that he bought in the 90's for $5 in his basement.  He owns a house in Thunder Bay, which is a damn rare thing nowadays but they're in the dead of winter by mid Nov up there.  Maybe it could be a cozy place ...

Alien Romulus directed the series back to its roots: the heroine saving the newt.  This time, the newt was replaced by a child android.  Lions believe it's time for a heroine android to enter the series.    The challenges in these latest sequels are so ridiculous, the suspense is gone.  Sometimes, the only way to win is to write in a new feature where the face huggers can't see you if the room temperature is raised.  It's all stuff lions have seen before, but modern 3D modeling aided by generative AI looks good.  They resurrected the CRT props of the original episodes.  Lions believe they're augmenting manual modeling with generative AI to get higher levels of detail.  There are still no blockbuster generative 3D models, but it can generate 2D elements to fill in areas. Lions imagine the planet rings were littered with face huggers & aliens after the space station collision.  Nothing would kill them.  The entir...
