Continuing the hits of the 80's, it was the 1st viewing of Who's afraid of virginia woolf in over 35 years. Young lion never really got it. Kiwipedia finally explained it's a study of reality & illusion. The son in the movie never existed because the couple was infertile. They tell themselves illusions to distract themselves from the grim reality.
The star of the show over time became the house. 1 of the other original Smith college buildings is still there.
Its location in the middle of a centrally located open space symbolized someone who had come of age, achieved all his professional goals & financial security.
Lions never knew if the tree was on his front yard or some kind of park. Old lion could imagine a tree with a swing being a bucket list item.
It's brightly lit interiors were really cozy. Every corner was fully lit & at the ready. It became the inspiration for brightly lighting all lion apartments later. In contrast, we always watched it inside a manely dark house.

Old lion notices the extreme closeups, extremely wide depth of field being used to convey intensity.
Only in HD did the extremely primitive kitchen become obvious. That was a really unimproved, ancient space by even 1966 standards. No grounding or GFCI outlets, but it got us to the moon. For telecommunications, the family cell phone might have been primitive but it probably could send pictures over 300 baud.
It was all a set, so maybe they used overly obsolete technology to convey the limited means of the husband. Rewatching it in old age, it became clear the husband regretted his career & had higher aspirations. By today's standards, any house is lavish.
Kitchens from the early 20th century were really unimproved utility spaces compared to their modern role as the showpiece of a house tour.
There was only a glimpse of a dining room next to the living room.
Lions grew to detest the convention of separate dining rooms, living rooms, kitchens & prefer all the functions to be in a single room.
The $5 mil house that Jenna Marbles bought with her gootube money has the 1 big living/dining/kitchen room in the rear, but the floor is subdivided into 2 more useless rooms in front. She paid only $2.8 mil for it in 2018. It doubled & then decreased slightly.
A lion could only afford a house in Calif* if what was left over was enough to retire on. The only other way is to speculate. There are those who love to speculate & Calif* has a good chance of always doubling every few years.
