100 miles in 7 days

A 28 miler brought the lion kingdom to 70 miles in 5 days.  30 miles in the next 2 days would reach the 100 mile threshold in 7 days.  The forecast had a brief window between storms.  Many animals aspire to run 100 miles in 7 days.  Lions would have to do it through a combination of walking & running.  If the tendon was still 48, it wouldn't be a big deal.   It was down to walking for the last mile.  The tendon did surprisingly well.

Back chafing became a real problem.  Loading it with vaseline got it managed but not recovering.

On the next day, set out to go as far as possible at walking speed & see what happened.  The 1st 3 were really painful & full of doubt about ever reaching 10.  Walked an entire 18 miles, leaving just 12 more to break 100.

Power usage was 530mAh/mile once the headlights came on.

The tendon was screaming bloody murder all the way.  Tendinopathy doesn't recover through mobilization.  It only recovers through unloading so the rest of the week would have to be walked.

This was the last year lions believed a 100 mile attempt would be possible.  Tendon function started dropping at age 45.  Once it's gone, it's gone forever.  There is no permanent way to regain tendon function.  There is only temporary relief through unloading.  The hope is to unload it over 4 weeks to try to get 1 more marathon out of it before age 51.

The final run of the effort topped out at 15.9.  It came a bit easier than the penultimate walk, so the tendon did experience some recovery overnight.  It was definitely well done.

The 7 day effort came to 104.45 by GPS with enough margin to compensate for the overpasses.

Most animals attempt a 100 mile week with 6 x15 & 1x10. Unexpectedly hit 70 in 5 days so decided to try 30 in another 2 days. The need to unload the posterior tibialis tendon every other day made this one a bit harder.  Lions previously imagined it in the form of 4x25 or BARFing to a different starting point every day.
