The gnarly victorian & the cowheroine made this movie a thing of beauty.  The house was a bit overdone, but that's what a house should look like. The government inflates credit so much, anything passes as a house, nowadays.

8/10/27: Reviewing some scenes 8 years later,  

Pondered if the town was a refuge for outlaws, like Kowloon walled city.  They traded Hackman's oppression for freedom.

Sharoine Stone is manely forgotten while Leo Dicaprio looms large.  Gene Hackman died.  Russel Crowe got larger & loomed large.  A lot of 21st century legends were in that.

After viewing Evil Dead, Sam Raimi's familiar camera moves were visible.
