So Starblazers 2202 ended with a whimper.  The lion kingdom couldn't figure out if they ever won against Zordar.  In episode 25, Zordar's weapons had been written all the way up to the arc of destruction.  Yamato was going to blow itself up inside the arc of destruction to try to buy time.  The rest of the humans were going to follow the G plan & find another planet.

In episode 26, we learn the arc of destruction was completely destroyed.  The  plan was shelved & they were cleaning up.  Kiwipedia had more information that wasn't visible in the show, manely that the arc of destruction was destroyed & the people of Earth voted unanimously to sacrifice the time fault to bring Wildstar back from another dimension.

Despite all that was written away with meaningless dialog, the lion kingdom could appreciate the way they depicted the Yamato popping into another dimension to pick up Wildstar.

There was a lot that could have been made of the trip to bring back Wildstar, but they just brushed over all of it.  The 1980 Starblazers didn't have a very satisfying ending, either.  The mane redemption with the 1980 series was the alien heroine being more proactive in saving Earth.  The modern series could afford to tell a more complicated story & show lot more detail about the other characters besides Wildstar because animation was a lot more advanced.  Both series wrote away all the loose ends.

Lions have concluded all Japanese space operas since Robotech have been based on the Ring trilogy.  The aliens all obtain absolute power by forsaking love.  The humans always defeat them by making them feel love again.

Much like 40 years ago, the lion kingdom watched season 2 1st & then started season 1.  Still remember what a shock it was to come home from school to see the Yamato revealed again, buried in rock, after it just saved Earth from the comet empire.  Did the Gamelons bombard Earth with radiation after the comet empire left?  It was the lion kingdom's introduction to a rerun of a serialized Japanese cartoon.

It was easier to accept the reimagining of the Yamato in those days because no-one knew what happened to the real thing.  For all we knew, it could have been on the ocean floor in 1 piece as depicted & some day it could become a spaceship.  40 years later, we know it's in 2 pieces, upside down.  Most of it is gone.

Photos of the real thing are now easy to view.

It wasn't nearly as extravagant as the space battleship.  It was just an ordinary boat.  Instead of a wave motion engine, there was an ordinary stern.

Most disappointing for a student of Starblazers.
