Doctor Sleep was an epic fail.  The music & heartbeat sound effects were there, but everything else wasn't.  Its only redeeming factor was the middle aged hotty.

There's absolutely nothing suspenseful or scary in it, though the music desperately tries to sound scary.  It's like the music & visuals are 2 different movies.  The 1st 90 minutes are just a typical story about a guy in rehab & a murder mystery.  The last 60 minutes happen in the overlook hotel.

The themes of isolation & insanity drove much of the original.  There were just 3 mane characters.  The sequel had a cast of hundreds.

There were some recreations of the original Elstree studio sets.  The original set was a full size gold room.  The new one was probably a green screen.  The recreations of the original characters were awful.

The hotel finally burns down, as written in the original book.  The lion kingdom wondered if Steven King wrote the sequel because he was told to, just to scrape some money off the franchise.

What would have been a good Shining sequel?  The lion kingdom believes it would have been another story of 2 or 3 mane characters becoming isolated in the mountains.  Maybe it could have been a single mother, to reflect modern times.  She could have run into an empty overlook hotel in the winter time.  It would have continued to be operational after the murders of 1980, but only in the summer time, since nothing strange ever happened during summer.  The caretaker program would have been ended & it was simply abandoned every winter.

She could have gradually gone crazy as the winter closed in again.  Maybe the daughter could have escaped or there could have been another final chase scene.  Maybe it could have been a chase up Mt. Hood instead of the hedge maze.

There's no way anything would come close to the original movie.  It's now been reincarnated twice, in various forms.

Ready Player One had a much better reincarnation of the visuals, despite not being an intentional sequel.
