The arianne 5 humbly launched JWST after 25 years, originally estimated at $1/2 billion in 1997 money, eventually $10 billion in today's money. Probably the last budget buster to be launched on a fully expendable rocket. None of the rocket cam views we're used to on commercial rockets. Just an intermittent mid 90's style peek at deployment. The big question is whether JWST will work.

5 years later, the tube found another documentary about it from 2025. Smarter every day revealed the sun shield has holes to allow air to escape during launch.  The video editor could play everything at 2-4x. 







Some unseen shots of bunny suited bio robots doing pretty intense manual labor.  They had to manually clean the mirrors, take off the lens cap, take off the mirror caps.

Sadly, 5 years later, there's bugger all media coverage about it.  Our newsfeeds are all AI generated.   Real world imagery from a telescope is old news.  $10B in 2021 is now $20B in today's money.

The days of bio robots having to do such intense manual labor are considered over.

Lots of tweets about how he lives in a mansion after claiming to sell all his mansions.  Obviously, anyone can say they're selling all their stonk & houses, then buy all their stonk & houses back.  In this case, as someone very important & influential, people are willing to donate to him.  Whoever donated the mansion gets to say he housed the man who made life multiplanetary.  

Donating mansions to friends is not as fun as it sounds.  Being in the software business is a constant barrage of demands for donations & insults just because the media says programmers are rich when in reality, we're unemployed half the time, our landlords take everything, & only programmers at Google make money.  The rest just hang on.

Its theatric run over in 1 month, Project Hail Mary arrived on the hard drive in short order.   After running the Michael Jackson movie for just a week, the IMAX theater now seems to be derelict.  They could be reserving it for private screenings or it could be too expensive to operate. It's a growing number of movies which won't be available in blu ray.  Lions continued to be perplexed by the inferior quality of webrips.      Skimming through it, the resemblance to 80's depictions of the future was striking.         It was a time when the future was painted white & noodled.  Sometimes you have to go back to go forward.   Moving on, they made every effort to pack as much of the book in a 2:30 screening time as possible.  The shots are all very quick.  It was like watching normal movies at 2x.  The book being intended from the start to be a movie definitely helped.   Computer animated exterior s...
