Heavy plate rolling mill, before & after.

In hindsight, buying into the twitter deal was a lot like gambling & the market was fairly pricing in the chance Elon wasn't who he said he was when it was $49.  Maybe the price is still being renegotiated at  $49.  Maybe it's being renegotiated at $39 now.  Maybe it's been called off.  Headlines give the impression that the deal is still going to happen, but the final price is unknown.  Are you more likely to double your money buying twitter now or buying an index fund & waiting 20 years?

The most amusing part was when Elon said the buyout should be up to the shareholders rather than the board of directors.  On the question of the price being $54.20 or $39, Elon would now say the price should be up to the board of directors instead of the shareholders.

It may be the pause in buyout talks is an attempt to wait for the the stonk fall as much as possible.

A function the lion kingdom wrote at age 22 comes to the fore again.  The days of char* byte buffers & single precision audio samples are long gone.

Fascinating medieval castle being built in Poland.  Despite using modern methods, the facades look like authentic stone masonry.

When modern buildings strive to look like castles, they rely on stucco & concrete to create the illusion of stone masonry.

Enabling hardware HEVC/H265 encoding on Linux is a shitshow, but the lion kingdom got it going.

https://docs.nvidia.com/video-technologies/video-codec-sdk/ffmpeg-with-nvidia-gpu/

These instructions were manely right.  The lion kingdom used a stock ffmpeg download.

Only the ffnvcodec bits & CUDA were required.  Some symbolic links were required from /usr/bin to the CUDA binaries.

nvcc -> /usr/local/cuda-11.2/bin/nvcc

cicc -> /usr/local/cuda-11.2/nvvm/bin/cicc

 The config command was

./configure --enable-nonfree --enable-cuda-nvcc --enable-libnpp --nvccflags=-I/usr/local/cuda/include --extra-cflags=-I/usr/local/cuda/include --extra-ldflags=-L/usr/local/cuda/lib64

Running ffmpeg now requires LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 ./ffmpeg

Running ffmpeg encoding inside Cinelerra requires LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64

It required upgrading the X11 driver but mercifully not the CUDA libraries.  The new X11 driver of course broke OpenGL.  The libGL files from NVIDIA-Linux-* have to be manually copied into the right /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu & /usr/lib32 directories.

Interestingly, ffmpeg-3.3.3 had hardware HVENC enabled by default.
