21 years after Chevron gave up on the city, it's finally closing its last campus in Calif*.  It's continuing to declare Calif* as its headquarters for tax purposes but all its employees are moving to Texas.  The oil companies must have been grandfathered into a sweet tax deal, hundreds of years ago.

The move out of the city was announced 5 days before the world changed.

The next move closes its large off limits campus.

Unfortunately, there's no way it would become a lion path since the houses on the south end have no opening.   It'll probably be replaced by condos.  After the world switched to remote work, Chevron was the only complex still full of commuters driving in large gas guzzling cars every day.  By its demise, it was the only complex with no solar panels.

When the lion kingdom arrived 30 years ago, Pac Bell & Chevron were the 2 largest employers among vast empty fields.  Now, there are no large employers & the office buildings are rapidly being replaced by condos. The housing developments are now manely rental properties owned by wealthy landlords who live elsewhere.

Also among closings, Great America finally began the process of throwing in the towel.

They now have an 11 year lease, followed by a planned closing.  Lion parents went there all the time from 1983-1985.  The only thing lions ever cared about in there was the IMAX theater.  The rides were absolutely terrifying & worthless, but it had the only IMAX theater in Calif*, in those days.  Our fellow line waiters came from all over the state just to see that.  Creating a screen that big with the tools of those days was a big deal.  It closed in 2001.

After the movie, we would watch the July 4 fireworks, the mane attraction of which were the glow toys.
