The lion kingdom reviewed Notting Hill for the 3rd time out of desperation.  It was truly mesmorizing the 1st time, 20 years ago, in 720P, long before the rest of the world had HD.  The 2nd time, it seemed bland.  Nowadays, it's damn tacky but not as bland.  The fact is lions never liked Julia Roberts.  The only movies of hers lions saw were Pretty Woman & Flatliners.  She was too serious & down.

The 1st encounter in the Ritz was the peak, where Hugh Grant carefully pierces the veil of infinite stardom.

& the bald guy keeps him from fully crossing over.

Being older & wiser has made the dinner scene a true disaster.  There's no way someone that high in status would waste any time going to a plebeian family dinner.  The mane thing lions remember from that scene is the "I will become some sad middle aged woman who looks a bit like someone who was famous" line.  Doesn't that apply to the gootubes, except the cutoff is now around 30.

Alec Baldwin's scene was a true comic relief after the dinner scene.  He wasn't credited.

The lion kingdom once walked down that sidewalk in front of the Ritz.  It seemed a lot less special in real life.  The lion kingdom didn't appreciate a lot of things about London in those days.

Then there was a good London skyline view.  If only Hugh Grant knew that tiny house would one day be worth many millions.  Would a movie star like that really sleep in a plebeian's tiny house to escape the paparazzi?  She would probably buy a house, but it was more credible than the dinner scene.

Middle aged lion can truly appreciate the vintage Nagra IV-S tape recorder shown in the movie set scene.  Those were everywhere in 1999, but today are collector's items worth many thousands.  They're also completely useless.

The makeup scene still works for lions.  "The readers of horse & hound will be absolutely delighted" was just perfectly delivered & another line lions remembered forever.  27 year old lion didn't yet know Horse & Hound was a real magazine.

The marriage & the pregnant scene in the park he once dreamed of having access to were a definite just no.  Marriage isn't the end game anymore & having a plebeian's kid is definitely a no for anyone like that.  At least it was a fun escape for a 27 year old lion who could still have dreams & didn't know any better.
