Lions can't believe the digital IMAX process is so inferior, it's affordable to build a temporary booth for an emulsion run.  The fact is it's all digital in its intermediate form.  The special effects are all rendered in 8 bit jpeg format, converted from RGB to YUV to RGB.

Like all hollywood blog posts, the pictures look like they came from a 2006 flip phone.  It's always been fascinating how animals who live & work near Hollywood don't have any cameras or they have the cheapest thing from 20 years ago.  No-one in showbiz wants anything to do with their own dog food.

The last IMAX movies lions watched in theater were Top Gun & Apollo 11.  It's a once in a multi year event. The picture quality really dropped when the 1st digital projector arrived.  The internet says that was a 2k projector.  Those were big pixels.  The 2nd "laser" projector eliminated all signs of pixels.  The internet says that's a 4k projector but lions have never noticed any pixelation.

The blog post shows the evolution from 2013 era pixelated IMAX projectors to 2015 era "laser" projectors.  The 2013 era projectors could be swapped with an emulsion projector.  The 2015 projectors are too big to move.

The projectors for standard format movies have been unchanged since 2013.  There are always 2 projectors overlapped to enhance brightness but lions suspect it's a repurposing of hardware from the 3D days.

The lion kingdom's local theater was 1 of the lucky 30 which showed Opp in emulsion.  The San Jose theater which showed Interstellar in emulsion lost its film projector in 2018.

"I am legend" "Titanic 2012" were the last emulsion screenings lions saw, both letterboxed.  Opp is the only one in 4:3 since Beauty & the beast.  15/70 remanes a fascinating mechanical process which can exceed digital if it stays in film format from end to end, as it did 40 years ago.

For the modern limited runs, the mane advantage seems to be the aspect ratio.  Maybe 4:3 will experience a revival because the physical real estate is so much higher & no home system can show it while all IMAX theaters are still 4:3.

Hexplexes near the lion kingdom are a way to build equity at only 1 mil.  It seems wrong to build something which doesn't produce anything just for equity purposes.  Lions believe everything should produce more than it costs & so should houses.  The house should allow making babies, storing things, making music, growing food or building things in a shop.  If it's just a store of wealth, it's not an efficient use of capital.  The government has structured housing so it doesn't have to be a practical form of housing to be profitable.
