More evidence the internet is a revolving door of 18-25 year olds that never ages.

Tried to salvage this phone cam by taking off the scratched glass.  Sadly, the flash doesn't work at all with this hot snot arrangement.  This could be a temporary solution, but it won't last.  The focusing mechanism is exposed & it has to be stowed in the truck facing the side. As was done with LG's, they need a dab of hot snot to keep the glass from scratching.  It also got run over twice.  Phone cams have proven better than the powershot & the DSLR in most cases, so there was no choice but to give the moto G pure an early retirement.  There's a big desire to leave the DSLR at home.

The last 2 phones arrived in Nov 2021 so they met the traditional 1 year lifespan per phone. There's little more a lion can expect even without the car wrecks.

The final xmas photos were through the scratched glass & they didn't look bad.  One does not take chances with a $2000 trip.

Dead speaker.  Lions weren't inclined to continue listening to its noisy output.  The only replacement as light was the 1st speaker.  It requires hitting the power button to turn it on.  What a lion would do for a delayed button press circuit small enough to go inside.  There are microcontroller boards small enough to go where the battery was, for a price.  A double RC circuit could do it.

When so many things break at the same time, it gets expensive.

Fortunately, in this case it was hackable.  The speaker was powered on by an NPN PNP pair.  The power button turns it on by connecting the NPN to 5V.  Then the firmware feeds 3.3V to the NPN.  A third way to power it on was to permanently connect the NPN to 5V.

Took a long time to finally buzz out that hack.  Never assume something can't be easily hacked.  Helas, there are problems.  It still shuts off after a few minutes of inactivity.  Instead of a power button tap reviving it, it now needs a full power cycle.  It still has a 1 second delay after full silence. It can't play anything with full silence.

That thing arrived in Feb 2017 & was the 2nd of 5 bluetooth speakers lions eventually got.  The Auvio BTS200M has been the best combination of loudness, weight, & size of them all.  Later ones had more bass but were heavier or quieter.

The soundcore mini had good bass but was noisy when amplified enough.  Lions still dream of making a perfect bluetooth speaker with high volume, low noise & high bass, no power management, but it's a difficult, expensive problem.
