It's been a rough year, despite all the stonk market records.  Stonks have actually just broken even with treasuries in the short term. The mane problem is the high in 2021 was just 10% lower than the current index price.  The 401k doesn't allow any position to grow faster than the slowest position & it hasn't rebalanced.  It's actually only grown 10% over 3 years.  The only benefit is the 30% tax cut.

In the lion business, some days you're up by a few thou & some days you're down by a few thou.  It takes getting used to not always being ahead every day.  MBA's & gootube stars laugh, but lions still remember their days as aimless college students who couldn't imagine ever having any meaningful investment income.

Sounds like the kind of startup a lion would get into.  You cannot be serious about a $300 universal remote control for other gadgets.  The 1 thing it does besides universal remote control is GPS maps, which a phone can already do.  Why would anyone use this instead of a phone app?  It might be an interesting project to control gadgets from a common bluetooth chip.  There are now standards for controlling flashlights over bluetooth.

It might only be justified because phone interfaces are so bad & bloated.

What do you mean a medieval monastery that votes liberal can't be happy.  Don't tell the immigrants because we need their money.  No surprise that prostitution is legal in the happiest country.

GPU computing is undergoing a 2nd evolution.  It now looks like CUDA is no longer the top dog & formerly embedded systems like raspberry pi are becoming the dominant platforms for GPU computing.  OpenCL & vulkan seem to be leading the movement into unifying the embedded systems with the PC systems.

The lion kingdom had to create some JPEG movies to test transitions.  Good old JPEG movie is still the duck's guts when accurate, fast seeking is required.  At 75 quantization, the octo ryzen plays 1920x1080 at 24fps.  At 100 Q, it drops to 19fps.  It's still single threaded but could be multithreaded with a lot of effort.  JPEG theoretically breaks the frames into slices.  The smart move might be having it decode the next 8 frames simultaneously.  The user would be again faced with a readahead configuration option.

This revival got lions pondering supporting 4:4:4 & 4:2:2 encoding for JPEG.  It's already possible using the command line encoder, but it's a buster to configure.  It would be a low fruit.  Lions have never needed JPEG encoding, but a higher quality variant with multithreaded decoding might find use in screen captures & as an intermediate when accurate seeking is required.

The real need is a higher bit depth, lossy codec with transparency.  The closest solution there continues to be lists of TIFF files.

There is a prores encoder & decoder in ffmpeg.  It seems to be an expansion of JPEG, with support for filled areas, alpha, 10 bits.  It requires 10 bits & doesn't support 4:2:0.  Lions have no prores sources.  It would be slower than JPEG.
