VCR war 2

Image
https://growmane.blogspot.com/2025/05/kass-sounds-like-dave-fry-did-15-years.html Attempt 2 of the VCR affair began.  It was a good thing the last attempt was a fail & lions didn't attempt to resend it.  It was mono only.  The big problems with VCR's are mono sound & no remote.  If they don't have a remote, they're usually locked into showing an onscreen display.  Attempt 2 was from hifiphilly.com.  He only had 2 useful VCR's.  It's possible that refurbishing obsolete gear is now a good business.   skylabsaudio.com There seems to be a growing number of junk stores & gootubers refurbishing obsolete gear but their prices seem too good to be true.  They're marked down from the new price, 25 years ago. They might subsidize the cheap stuff with the expensive stuff.  Guys like to load up & save on shipping. Helas, the VCR had no rewind, though it played forward.  Neither was there any way to complet...

When worlds collide was a poster for the early starship construction, out in a field, but all we had was a crusty 500x368 copy.  Many years later, a 1450x1080 copy finally made its way to the usual place.     When the world is going to end, smoke em if you got em.   It still looked amazing in the 80's when lions 1st saw it. Old lion was more impressed by the vintage aircraft.  The closeup hovering was quite impressive. The UH-12 N8132H was powered by its original 210HP Franklin engine.  Later versions had the same 300HP Lycoming O-540 as the R-44. It looked pretty overloaded with the 3 of them, but it actually had more power than the 150HP O-320 & 180HP O-360 powered R-22. Old lion pondered how the kid got there.  He must have been strapped down by parents who long since died. What would lions do if the world was going to end like that?  A lifeboat in the middle of the ocean with some means of propelling it to shore once the fireworks e...

Warren buffet's 6500sq ft mansion is blurred out, like most of goog maps.  3000 sq ft are undoubtedly for the body guards.  The modesty of it is kind of a joke, by now.  It's an unattainable amount of space in a walkable neighborhood.  He's between the U of N undergrad campus & med school, which lions visited long ago.  He's in the historic district, 3 miles from the waterfront.  The whole place seemed homey & well manetained, but lions only saw it in the summer. Though none of his neighbors houses are for sale, you could be in that neighborhood for much less than anything in Calif*.  3% property tax, of course. Lions remember taking a ride through an industrial wasteland nearby.  It might have been farther west. When the recommendations remind you how fast fiat money is losing value.  $700k was pretty high end, just in 2017.       ---------------------------------------------------------------------------...

25 years of bowling alley battles came to an end.  Of course, lions rarely crossed there in the last 5 years.  It was manely used when a grocery store existed on the south side.  Lions would get lunch there & cross over to go to Targ.  The south side was rezoned for high density housing.  There might be more crossings, manely for extending the uninterrupted distance of a fast run.  The tendon recovered enough for lions to not have to cross there during a 5 mile walk anymore.  The 5 mile walk has been replaced by a wally run. There's so much paw traffic during the 6pm cooldown, it's extra wide.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    Valkyries are real. Like the rest of gen X, Brittney Powell went off grid after 2014.  She had a gootube channel which since got nuked as the tube's terms expanded to ban everything. She was in a potato quality movie in 2018, ...

Transformers 1986

https://growmane.blogspot.com/2020/02/transformers-1986-was-released-in-hd.html   Finally got around to watching the HD copy of Transformers 1986.   The cropped movie theater print wasn't that bad.  This was, after all, what audiences saw in the cinedome 7 for $7. Lions hit it with unsharp.  It would have been difficult to unsharp the DVD in realtime, in 2004.  That made it look as crisp as something shot today.  Colors were still a bit more yellow than 40 years ago.         Some scenes were out of focus even in HD.  The A animation tended to be the more crusty print.    Surprised by the scratches in the unicron explosion.  That was 12fps with clonable material. There's no escaping the feeling of looking through a straw, for someone who watched 4:3 many times.  Young lion pondered how anyone knew what button to press in those cartoons.  40 years later, most lion interfaces have minimal to no labels.  ...
