harlan house finale
Ultimate man cave
It had been over 35 years since the lion kingdom's last viewing of Forbidden Planet. HD was definitely a new experience.
Garbage matting was finally visible.
Robbie the robot was not the same one in lost in space. The lost in space one was simply known as the robot. Who knew we wouldn't we able to stand a day without our robots, 50 years after that show.
A lot more impressive visuals in HD & to audiences in 1956.
The most suspense was firing phasers into the great beyond, knowing something was out there while not being able to see it.

The latest AI music is still kind of bland & dead, but better. At the time of the coming out, it wasn't a hit band.

It came to pass that the Harlan house finally burned down. It seemed to spread to the grass. The harlan family fought for so long to get it out of historic landmark status & sold, they left the windows open to try to hasten its collapse. It wouldn't be surprising if their next move was to burn it down.
It was listed for several years. Interestingly, it was shown as sold in 2017 & 1998 for very little money, probably because of the historic designation. The time when houses in this valley were just $1 mil seems so distant & preposterous now, but that was the fair market price for most everything, as recently as 2019. As far as lions know, it stayed in the Harlan family at least until 2017. The day before the fire, it was reduced by a few mil & renamed unimproved land.
It seemed to not actually be for sale, but a developer was looking for an investor. The lion kingdom doesn't make $190k.
From hasting's cutoff, to losing his gold rush claim, to having to pay double property tax, to his house burning down, Joel Harlan was cursed even after death. Whatever is built there is going to be equally cursed. Maybe it's an indian burial ground.
A big police convoy was interrogating some kids down the road, but they were unlikely suspects.
The lion kingdom noted an ongoing battle between a developer & city to preserve the house. If the house somehow disappeared, he could proceed with building. He might have been trying to get rid of it for the last year after failing to build. He apparently lived nearby. Before that was a doctor who wanted to move it down the road. It seems everyone who bought it ran up against a preservation lobby & ended up trying to get rid of it.
There was 1 good photo during the fire.
More bits including the chimney had shed by the next day.
Lions tried to document more salient features with the point & shoot.
Only 2 bits of the signature roof trim were still intact. It's unlikely any of those would be preserved. They couldn't easily be separated from the rest of the wall. They wouldn't survive any demolition. A fragment would be enough to measure the size & replicate the piece.
Otherwise, we're estimating from the window size.
The 2020 redevelopment plan page 218 called for a smaller replica of the gable fenestrations, but it also had a scale drawing of the originals.
Helas, it was a half assed reproduction of the originals. It provides enough information to know the entire wall was 31ft wide & extrapolate more from the 2022 photo.

Glorius commodore BASIC abbreviations. After an extended fight to get adbwrap to only run adb devices when necessary, it ended up having to run before every single command. There's no way to scan the stdout, stderr, stdin of the adb subprocess for an error. It changes behavior when it's not running in a console. Neither Python nor C could get around it without heroic methods. Passing signals to a subprocess was also difficult.
If the user provides -s with the 1st characters of a device name, it tries to extend the device name by running adb devices. If it can't, it proceeds with the -s argument. If the user doesn't provide -s, it gives an interactive menu of devices.
The more difficult ideas are tab completion, recursive getting, recursive deleting.

The LG had built up a growing number of scratches over 4 years. None of them were as bad as the HP near its end. The HP was done in by its mechanical stand. The LG has so far lasted the equivalent of the commodore's arrival in summer 1984 to the move in winter 1989. That was about all of the lion kingdom's experience with the C64 & by the end, it was losing appeal fast. Lions manely used PC paint & PC paint was just better than anything it had. A 4 year span was a lot longer in 1984. We didn't have Matthew Broderick's toys.
