The ultimate language model in lion minds is one that converts an algebraic language to highly optimized assembly language.  In fact, given the trends, it might be C to assembly.  Lions believe AI could finally open the door to more widespread use of vector instructions or CISC instructions we haven't heard of.

All new languages compile down to C & rely on gcc to generate assembly.  It kind of makes C the natural, universal entry point for that model.  Lions always dreamed of being able to convert an algebraic language to vector instructions automatically, but for some reason, the industry is only investing in converting from spoken language to high level programming languages.

A lot of gootube leads about agents came out in the last week, after a relatively silent period.  The agent concept came out only a year ago & was the boogie man for a while.  Now it seems a bunch of new models in the last week got the concept to finally hit paydirt.  The mane thing blocking lions is the cost.

Gone are the days of entering prompts in a browser & getting standalone code examples.  Now you tie a model into your command line & prompt it to make changes to your own repository, document the repository, build, & test.  The agent is usually a simpler, free model that interprets 1 prompt & creates its own prompts to invoke many other paid models.  The agent & all the connections required to manipulate your files, ingest the program's output is the harness.

It once again seems to manely automate what is easily described in spoken language, replicating what has already been done.  "Make yt-dlp circumvent gootube's login requirement" won't work.  "Make a chat window in a web page" seems to be the emphasis.

If the output is a GUI or a piece of hardware, you have to manually instrument the GUI or the hardware for the model.  The demos of agents look like the next evolution of the IDE.  It's a big evolution, but it's still what IDE's have always been doing.

The lion day job, conventional modifications to a large existing codebase, purely interfacing a software environment, is totally obsolete. The night job, very esoteric programs written from the ground up, interfacing the real world, is probably still best suited for standalone prompt examples.  Suspect we're going to start paying Anthropic & OpenAI for licenses before hiring any more animals.  Using agents is a new skill which must be learned & it seems about as involved as programming.

Lions are just saving up & planning to quietly disappear when the jobs stop coming.  Software development is probably near the end of its 50 years of mass employment.  It rose when terminals replaced punch cards.  It boomed when it required immense amounts of manual labor.  There has always been a quest to automate it.  Now the tools are finally reaching the point of fully automating it.

Lions ponder what the point is of so many startups making new, higher level languages if the models can generate error free code in anything.  Why don't they generate web pages in pure javascript?  Why do languages still need runtime bounds checking & type checking for a perfect programmer?  What is the point of stream operators if no human is ever going to read it?

At least the stonk market seems fairly valued.  The fed is going to drive up asset prices to offset falling wages.  The next class of startups seems to have coalesced & they're all once again in SOMA.  They're all based on web development with AI.  The boom of 2014 seems to be repeating.

Then it came to this.  Definitely felt hot.  Lions pondered if this was the flu which got Stewart Cheifet.  Definitely need to start getting vaccinated.

This one was the worst in 30 years, requiring much napping during the day.  The last time lions were bedridden for an extended period was Dec 1996.  That one was worse.  Young lion couldn't get out of bed for a full day during its peak.

Since then, they were never bad enough to ponder all the other animals in the world who got vaccinated & were enjoying their time off.  They were bad, but lions could always get around.

The moment things improved in the slightest, it was a vengeance run.  Only managed 200m.

The pullup bar quest started getting real.
