Final waterfront run was probably finished today. Pleasantly surprised by some random shots, letting the camera drift sideways & the lion move out of frame.  Another trick was letting it drift in & out during a diagonal shot.  One that wasn't done was running towards & behind it.  Definitely looks better the farther away it is but the drogue just isn't practical for sideways shots or crowded areas.

  Based on how long ago the last waterfront run was, lions don't expect to do it again.  It was Dec 2024.  Manely a time limitation, among other things.

 Tried getting across the bridge in RC & got bounced in short order.  Was so frustrated, cut the power instead of doing a power button shutdown.  The pro lost the file & wrote over the sectors.

Made it across in Dec 2024, in pure leash timelapse mode.  Made it across in Jul 2023 in a combination of degraded leash & RC mode.  There was a cop in frame during an RC segment.

 

They might have been triggered by the RC mode, the rules might have changed, it might have been luck, or it might have been the wrong cop.  The video from 2024 was pretty good, using the gopro 7 in the level position.  The video from 2023 had the upward pointing gopro 7 & was fogged in.  Anything on the bridge probably needs an upward pointing mount to look good.  It would be difficult, with the gopro 11.

There's no reason for them to bust leash mode, especially free wheeling mode.  Freewheeling leash mode uses powered braking but might be difficult to drag uphill.  It might be worth testing freewheel mode on a simulated grade & it might be better than nothing if running to Sausalito.  Run into the same cop though, & you better have a good language model on speed dial.

It can't detect the length in freewheeling mode so translation offset won't work.  It's always fully extended.  It was always a last resort instead of a video mode.

Funny that they allow full sized, unmanned cars to go wherever they want but a private individual with an RC truck is banned.  Reviewing robotaxi geofences, that information is very obfuscated.  Teslas go across the bridge with a safety driver.  Waymo shows Marin county, but not if they cross the bridge.

 Even after 9/11, before 2010 the world wasn't that heavily guarded.  Unfortunately, cameras needed another 15 years.  It's possible the current forever war has everything locked down.

  With that, lions don't expect to ever cross the bridge again.  Not sure what's left to discover.  Before 2023, there were many runs across, all without truck.  They were manely enabled by having a day job there, but would be quite difficult now without the truck.  The truck is still a non factor if going to the headlands.  It would have to be stashed in the city.  There is a $2/hour luggage storage in Sausalito & Lombard St.  The clipper card has $60 left.  There might be a final ocean beach run or runs to just get food.

Its theatric run over in 1 month, Project Hail Mary arrived on the hard drive in short order.   After running the Michael Jackson movie for just a week, the IMAX theater now seems to be derelict.  They could be reserving it for private screenings or it could be too expensive to operate. It's a growing number of movies which won't be available in blu ray.  Lions continued to be perplexed by the inferior quality of webrips.      Skimming through it, the resemblance to 80's depictions of the future was striking.         It was a time when the future was painted white & noodled.  Sometimes you have to go back to go forward.   Moving on, they made every effort to pack as much of the book in a 2:30 screening time as possible.  The shots are all very quick.  It was like watching normal movies at 2x.  The book being intended from the start to be a movie definitely helped.   Computer animated exterior s...
