IT 2019
A potato quality copy of the final installment of the 4 episode IT franchise arrived on the hard drive. It was a quite a step up from the other 3, a very enriched envisioning more faithful to the 1990 version & probably the book, if lions ever finished it. Of course, actually pacing is very slow in digital movies. It only feels fast because of high speed playback.
It seems an increase in budget after the success of IT 2017 allowed them to revert some of the plot points back to the original text, like bringing the abusive father back to life & having the heroine hit it off with an abusive man instead of the alpha male depicted in episode 1. They might have bent those points assuming it was going to be a flop.
Noted a living breathing ARRI film camera with a magazine full of money. Funny that the magazine had IT 2 printed on it, with a shooting date in 2018 while the movie was set in 2016. The director was an actor & it would have been purely digital in 2016 but it was fun to imagine behind the scenes of the real movie getting into the real movie.
We get some nice corpses.
The black protagonist now had a man cave on top of the library. For someone who doesn't need any windows or fresh air, that could make it worth staying in the old town.
They confirmed the monster was not conjured by aborigines as depicted in Pet Sematary but was an alien the aborigines learned to destroy.
The attainable women
Was curious how they reimagined the heroine's childhood home. She how had a hidden compartment in it. They revealed the clown actor without makeup but probably a prosthetic bald head.
The monsters were actually scarier at 1.5-2x than normal speed.
Then there was another 50 minutes of extra, random monster flashbacks from their 1989 days. Noticed they had a big drum beat with every jump scare. Corpse guy from 1989 got a lot more screen time. Spider head of John Carpenter fame makes a comeback. 8 leg creatures go really fast, in movies. Not so fast in robotics. Each character has their own nemesis monster they keep encountering.
The legend himself, Steven King critiques the fictional author.
The return to the villain lair, with some degradation & the original clown's train car now flattened. Darkest scenes ever, to save on rendering.
True to the 1990 version, we go to an even deeper cave network.
Villain never completely transforms into his alien form & talks too much, as they dragged out the final battle way beyond 1990.
They didn't mame the clown this time, but somehow shrunk him with insults before once again pulling out the heart.
They confirmed the asthma kid died, but the body remaned entombed forever in the villain cave this time. There was supposed to be some logic in picking which 2 kids had to die. Suicide guy would freeze up in the moment of truth so he had to die off or they would all die. Then, lions believe asthma guy had to die to show the futility of the over protective mother.
Black guy gave up his man cave.
Nifty thundercats shirt. Surprised that show became one of the forsaken ones, for all lions enjoyed the logo.
