Pondering the only weekend heat wave of the year, some BARFABLE union city routes came to mind.

House grand tour could be done in 10 miles.  The missing piece is a why.

Out & back to bay would be 16.5 miles.

A gravel section reduces it to 15.5.  Out & back by way of house would get it over 16.

Bay + house + grand tour would be 18.5 miles.

Minimum house out & back on gravel would be 8 miles.  The forecast is the low 90's.

Another 11 are required to get to Dublin.  Younger lion could go 30 miles in a day.  Old lion is maxing out at 20.

Berk marina out & back would be 10 miles.  Ocean out & back in the city is 12 miles.  That forecast is the high 80's.

Berk softworks through the hood is 10 miles.  Might as well BARF it in & go to the marina from downtown Berk, as young lion once did.

Settled on a 20 miler & both posterior tibialises completely blew up.  Some of the problems came from the temperature inversion.  It was so much colder in the lower altitudes, got behind on the water ahead of the elevation gain.  It was much hotter at higher elevation.  What finally ended the running was the heat & the growing sensations of cramping rather than the tendons.

It seems lions need to abandon all speeds over 9 min/mile before race day.  The posterior tibialises were fine until attempting higher speeds in July.  Besides the obvious tear in 2024, not sure when tendinitis started limiting the longer distances.

Spreadsheets show no marathon efforts between developing the sandals in 2018 & the start of marathon training in 2024.  2021 had a 19 & a 22 mile effort.  2020 had a 21, 23 & 19 mile effort.  2019 had many 19-23 mile efforts.  The posterior tibialis had no problems until 2024.

The sandals didn't get more padding until Dec 2020, right when the longer distances went away.  As late as mid 2020, they were just 12mm.

Lions could go back to padded shoes & special socks for the long efforts. After a few miles, they don't feel very different from sandals.

There were still many difficult times in padded shoes & many similar struggles on the days after long runs.  Your worst enemy is walking.

Did more of the shorter efforts in 12mm sandals after May 2026.

Few things are as intimidating as being out on the trail at night, hearing the thunder of chopper blades coming from behind, really close to the ground, somewhere in the dark.  When they finally became deafening, stopped & looked around.  The silhouettes of a pair of H47's down below 400ft AGL flew past, over the freeway, like alien spaceships from close encounters.

Suspect they were scanning for radiation.  Wondered if they were mobilizing for some kind of Iran invasion.  They must have woken up a few billionaires.
