1 of those summers future lion will remember as when past lion baked all day & all night for many days on end.  The inside managed to top out at 99.  The outside topped 104 & the inside topped 96 for 5 straight days.  When future lion ponders how past lion could stand such heat, it will generally be lots of water spraying & no clothing.

There are theories wearing soaked clothing is more effective than full nudity.  The clothing would trap more water against your body instead of letting it drip off.

 The balcony weather station managed to continue transmitting, despite being abandoned.  It was manely serving no purpose there.  There are many building exteriors & absolutely no-one cares what commanding heights their temperatures hit.  

The original idea was to more accurately know when forced air would cool the apartment, but there was an element of freedom from wunderground & wunderground being dead most of the time.   After wunderground was bought out, it was manely down for many years.  There was also a theory  that forced air would reflect the balcony temperature more than the wunderground reports. 

 

The battery has gradually faded until today it's 4.1V  - 6.2V.  That puts the cells at 0.68-1.  That circuit is supposed to die below 3.6V.  Was expecting water intrusion or corrosion to kill it 1st. 

It was a buster to manetain.  Not only does the balcony have spiders, it needs a new battery, new weather proofing, new wiring every few years.  There's no room to store the parts anywhere else.

Temperatures will peak in August, probably similar to 2020, from 115-120.   Temperatures have risen over the last 24 years because of development of the valley.  Empty fields next to Chevron used to cause evaporative cooling & let the wind howl across the valley.  Those are now full of highrises.  The mane road was widened, erasing a lot of plants.

Lions are intrigued by why animals die from heat.  A battery backup & water sprayer are essential in that situation.  Dimentia might kill you either way though.

July 4 weather was better than past years but not good enough for a lion to make such a long trek.  They were not near muni pier like past years.  The best view was directly on pier 39 where only a small number of animals would fit.  From there, the view was clear but a lion would have been unlikely to get in front of the mob.  The lion kingdom might have gone to Fort Mason like past years & only seen fog. 

 

 There were 2 shows, but it wasn't obvious where the other one was.  This camera faced north. 

 

This camera showed the other one near muni pier as before & definitely more fogged in.  So when going to the city, go to pier 39 unless it's perfectly clear.
