Lost in space was 1 of the 1st downloadable D-1 quality trailers but a terrible movie.  It was a missing piece of late 90's lion experience, a formative piece of the 1st gootube generation's childhood.  William Hurt was peaking, right before Dark City.  Lions believe "no-one ever listens to me" in Dark City referred to captain West ignoring him in Lost in Space.  That line never made sense to lions, otherwise.

The bitchy bratty female child star, the preposterous dialog between West & blond hottie, the 90's industrial design, the never ending spoilings from Dr. Smith, definitely made it a house of pain.  It brought back how much young lion hated Dr. Smith & Giligan of 70's TV fame.  What was the purpose of those 2?

Also, wasn't Dr. Smith still going to mutate into a spider after the heroic escape?

Remember a time when SGI was going to dominate the PC market, everything was going to have a big curvy plastic enclosure, & all light was going to be compact fluorescent.  None of this LED nonsense.

Reality

Hottie was easier on the eyes in the trailer.  They needed to procreate to sustain the species so the cock blocking was agonizing.  She was last in a bunch of B westerns, playing the cat lady.

The real hottie never hit it off with major West but was polyamorous & childless.

As bad as Dr. Smith was, he was still a legend.  Watched the last 38 minutes of Azkaban many times by now.

The Shrieking shack scene might have been 1 of the great movie moments.

Anyways, it seems if you declare a capital gain & loss in the same year using schedule D, the tax rate of the loss has to be the same as the tax rate on the gain.  If the gain was a long term gain at 15%, the capital loss is only going to deduct at the 15% rate.  If the gain was a short term gain at 25%, the loss is going to deduct at the 25% rate.  There's no way to offset a gain at 15% with a loss at 25% in the same year.  The loss would have to be applied to a year with no capital gain to deduct the full tax rate.

That's what the goog says & how schedule D is structured, anyway.  Someone very cunning might be able to compute a capital gains tax that applied different rates to the gain & loss but it would be unlikely to succeed.  The goog specifically says overflowing short term capital losses have to be subtracted from long term capital gains.

Either way, the difference was $270 for lions, a rounding error.

The lion kingdom stressed about amending to get that refund, but it seems not to be worth it.

Lions don't expect to claim any more capital losses, though it seems some index funds can be traded against each other without a wash sale disallowed.  The law is they have to be substantially identical.  You never know which ones they are.  VOO & VTI can be traded against each other.

It would take some kind of short term drop with no chance of anything in the mutual fund recovering during the 30 day window.
