Lots of headlines about the demise of movie theaters. When lions were in school, they watched a few movies in theaters because there was no way to watch anything at home. They got well ahead of the curve after 1998, quickly being able to watch DVD quality at home, on a 14" monitor. Theaters still offered cheaper, higher quality viewings & didn't go away.
After 25 years of gradual improvement in the home viewing experience, the latest breakthrough being rapidly switchable playback speeds, lions have watched movies in theaters roughly every 3 years, gravity (2013), the martian (2015), apollo 11 (2019), top gun (2022). It's not clear if the delivery medium is entirely responsible.
The home experience is still a relatively small screen with only 2 speakers, level compression, no LFE. They have to be a certain type of movie & the home experience is just good enough to no longer justify any theater besides IMAX. Lions left theatric presentations feeling less immersed than by sitting up close to the home monitor. The mane limitations are time & attention. Skills & tools are vastly superior to what a 20 year old had, so time is worth a lot more than it used to be.
The current prime demographic is still manely limited to laptop size screens, laptop speakers & phones. Maybe they enjoy listening on earbuds. It's hard to believe the delivery medium for them is edging out theaters as much as attention. In their case, it's going to be doom scrolling.
Lions do regret not seeing Beauty & the beast (2017) in IMAX. The computer generated visuals were quite impressive, but it was unlikely to have been in IMAX.
There was a mild desire to watch Avater 3 in IMAX, if only because the high frame rate scenes are intentionally cut from all non theatric versions. It's a high bar to sit through such a bland plot just to see a high frame rate effect.
The modern, reduced seating capacity might be a detractor for someone of lion age. Lions only remember a much more popular age of theaters, with much bigger audiences & a live introduction to the IMAX process.
For all the hype around watching movies in 80's single family homes with the 3 way speakers at full blast, movie theaters were still our mane viewing experience. VHS couldn't compare. Modern delivery mediums in a single family home might outdo a theater, but that's a tiny demographic.

The crap summary came in for 2025 & it was manely software, refinements of previous designs, & failures. Lack of space ended the CAD modeling explosion of previous years. The biggest chapters were the custom mouse enclosure, music notation program, phone proxy, backflow starship incense burner, UWB failure, cord locks, gopro 11 harness, foot shutter based on a hall effect sensor, double exposure TTL flash. The biggest impact was of course, the hall effect sensor leash switch. It didn't initially feel like a big win, but a year of using it changed it.

The 2nd vacation in the years when xmas & new years are separated by work days always goes by in the blink of an eye because we're accustomed to it. Only the 1st vacation would have the new experiences our brains need to extend the perception of time.
This year would feature continuous rain during both vacations, because the carbon cycle had lined up with our commuting patterns by the 2nd vacation.

Roast turkey & stuffing worked quite well. For the 1st time, the new year dinner was on NYE instead of Jan 1, it would be in the parties, along with the long lost NYE TV shows.
