Who knew SC had higher income tax below $40k than Calif* & SC has higher sales tax than Calif* did 30 years ago.  Lions are dropping to 8% before they leave Calif*.  They already dropped into lower social security tax brackets.  A lion would be better off renting in Palm Springs than a great many other states.

 Also, if there were no parents, the entire country was on the table & finances weren't as tight, lions still ponder if they would move to FL.  Influencers seem happy in the rainy northwest, but lions aren't convinced it's real.  Dave Plummer is an indoor guy with 12000 sq ft.  Ray Delahanty travels more often than he's in Portland.  Happy on Monday & Ms Gen Xodus are definitely indoor women.  Lions were indoor animals 40 years ago.

The rainy northwest might have worked for 10 year old lions & created a lot of warm fuzzy memories, but there's no going back.  Lions have to bring back food & exercise now.

Definitely remember a key source of bliss from 1997-2000 was never having winter.  Never got a cold.

 Lions always ponder the next move, should employment end tomorrow.  The money would start running out & reach 0 by age 70.  The schemes on gootube all rely heavily in large stonk market exposure, pensions, spouse employment, gootube income.  To someone who watched the stonk market for 30 years & faced the pressure on gootubers to generate revenue, they come across as a get rich quick scheme.

Lions would burn $50k/year right away, with no new car & no more teeth problems.  It would be partly met by investment income. The rate of decrease would reduce the principal & the investment income.  Without massive risk exposure, lions aren't going to be the animals who end up with more than they started.  It's more about losing the bragging rights than becoming destitute though.

To reduce taxes on 401k distributions, lions have to move 2 months before hitting 55 & the Calif* lease also has to end 2 months before hitting 55, but they're only offering 13 months or 1 month at extreme prices.  To cancel addresses for tax purposes, it basically requires moving out on the lease ending in Nov of age 54, right in hurricane season.  Lions could rent 3 more months at ludicrous prices & move out after hurricane season.  Any more would not be affordable.  Either way, the tax situation & lease terms point to just 3.5 more years at most.

There would be a trip to FL in the last 6 months to review the destination so any road trips in Calif* have to be done in the next 3 years.  1 more trip to Santa Barbara, LA marathon, possibly Vegas seemed to be the only ones.  Lions won't be going to the Placerville or Clear lake areas as they did 40 years ago.  Freeing up more road trips would require exiting in 3 years.

Facing a walkable neighborhood, declining health, & more certainty about the location takes the edge off. Probably going to feed the mane every day at the waterfront while staring at the VAB.  Instead of reloading X all day, lions can just be near the space center.  The days of running fast & long are already over, so lions won't miss the bike path.

In other real estate news, lions were surprised they're cannibalizing the world's most expensive real estate for a data center.

 

It reminded lions of the peak oil stories about cannibalizing the food supply in order to feed cars.  Now everyone is homeless, you can't find a house anywhere west of the 5 for under $2M, & they're cannibalizing all the land for data centers.  This particular neighborhood is a dump of $600k shacks.

There were times when animals gave everything they had for vicarious wealth through corporations like Apple & Goog.  They wanted these companies to expand so owning their products could feel like being part of something bigger.  

Now, it's all about exploding stonk valuations.  The data center craze is basically for sustaining stonk valuations by now.

 Some intriguing nuggets for those of us who lived in extremely tule fog impacted areas, 40 years ago.  Being exposed to fog for months in a row might have changed the normal flora of our bodies.  Except for the extended tule fog of 2025 & 2011, the tule fog has officially been decreasing since 1981.  The mane reasons are warmer temperatures & less pollution.   The last memory of a truly extended tule fog event was winter of 1991.  Driver's ed in those days spent inordinate amounts of time on driving in fog.

   Amusing that Grok applied an IPv6 style pseudo header to the computation of an IPv4 ping packet, even though IPv4 doesn't use the pseudo header.       Another Grok error was in a basic TCP demonstrator.  To avoid a TIMED_WAIT on the server blocking the port, you have to exit the server without closing the socket.   These errors take a lot more time to track down than doing it the old way.  It might be fixed in paid versions of Grok.  Finally tracked down the Sun bootloader font from many decades ago & put it in Cinelerra as gallant12x22.  Put Sun Gallant Demi into the goog to get useful results. https://github.com/dim13/gallant/tree/master/ttf   It's a fixed point font in an archaic format.  Some guy converted it into a TTF with a lot of antialiasing.  He has a PNG image showing no antialiasing.  It has to be set to size 22 & requires a threshold to get rid of the antialiasing.  Freetype might be shifting it 1/2 pixel vertically. It had a kind of curiosity value, but lions have had no need for any fixed point fonts besides the 24pt Sony of CAEDM fame. Another hit said it was 1 of the fonts available in kernel framebuffer mode.  Lions haven't used kernel framebuffer mode in decades.  It could possibly replace 24pt Sony if lions wrote a fixed point converter.
