A most peculiar decline in fitness, as the left hamstring now started seizing up at mile 11 instead of 18.  It was over 90F 36% humidity.  Lions didn't take hydration  & higher humidity seriously & finished it rather dry. Weather records strangely show similar humidity 7 years ago, yet the hygrometer has been consistently pegged over 45% for the 1st time & lions have not needed foot moisturizer since 2025.

11 miles was the typical seize point after the SF marathon & tendinopathy, in 2016.   

Have noted the seizing develops after stopping but is masked while moving.  So not stopping abruptly tends to buy some time.  Then, bend over to stretch the hamstring.

 Both posterior tibialises have been flared up since the last 18 miler, with a big emphasis on the left one.  It seems problems returned after the speedy days on 8/12 & 8/14, the 18 miler on 8/15 with no recovery day.

Dreamed about going home in the middle of the san francisco marathon, then coming back several hours later.  The streets were still closed but all the animals were gone.  Couldn't find the exact place to resume.  Started running forward, hoping to come across it before the cutoff.  The route was completely convoluted without other runners to follow.

The last "workstation" motherboard took the next step towards valhalla.  It will never fire up again.  The Tyan system was $10k, an era of truly gigantic motherboards, the peak of SMP from discrete CPU's.  Its dual, top of the line Opteron 250s at 2.4Ghz with 8GB of RAM could decode 1920x1080 H.263 damn fast.  Forget about H.264 & H.265 though.  It was the last with a directly addressable parallel port, though they continued to have UARTs until 2018.  It would be many years until lions had 8GB again.  Noted the bridges used AMD's 1990's era packages.  Lions didn't pay for it.

 


 

 The next one was a "gaming" motherboard, the lion kingdom's 1st multicore.  Being self funded, it only had 4GB of RAM but was fast enough to decode H.265.  Phenom II, 3.2Ghz, 4 cores.  It really came up short by 2018, when lions needed virtual machines.

 


 The audio codec in that began the era of pure TOSLINK.

 



 The 2000 era AMD packaging was nice & shiny but burned up without a heat sink.  

Crystals, buzzers, big ceramic caps, SOT voltage regulators are the mane candidates for scavenging.  There's not enough room for any more TO-220's or inductors.

 


Time to confess lions will never use the IDE cables again, for even jumper wires.  It's not about whether you can scavenge jumper wires from them but about having enough room to store that kind of jumper wire supply.

 Lions miss the old manually created thumbnails because they showed the real world but the modern pure AI tube is definitely more professional looking.  Also noted most of gootube is going paid only.

 


Techlead was only copying everyone else.  If the strict paid route is making more than the ad supported route, it doesn't make sense for any of gootube to continue being ad supported.  They don't get into any recommendations if they're not monetizing.

Its theatric run over in 1 month, Project Hail Mary arrived on the hard drive in short order.   After running the Michael Jackson movie for just a week, the IMAX theater now seems to be derelict.  They could be reserving it for private screenings or it could be too expensive to operate. It's a growing number of movies which won't be available in blu ray.  Lions continued to be perplexed by the inferior quality of webrips.      Skimming through it, the resemblance to 80's depictions of the future was striking.         It was a time when the future was painted white & noodled.  Sometimes you have to go back to go forward.   Moving on, they made every effort to pack as much of the book in a 2:30 screening time as possible.  The shots are all very quick.  It was like watching normal movies at 2x.  The book being intended from the start to be a movie definitely helped.   Computer animated exterior s...
