Pondered how a lot of retail investors on the sidelines since 2008, on the cusp of 1M, jumped in the stonk market during the dip in 2020, at the same time, then instantly crossed 1M. Then based on stonk market returns, they all hit 2M 6 years later & now are getting the hell out at the same time.
Investment behavior is like a row of metronomes that all synchronize over time. Large events of selling & buying eventually tend to line up.
Military defeat was not on the lion kingdom's bingo card. Defending a shipping channel was pretty important for bond prices.

From the department of stuff you didn't know. No open source/stack overflow/claude. Just bookshelves. No sampled audio or captured video. Just text & drawings. Everyone had cubes, either 1 or 2 to a cube. All MIT, Stanford, Berkeley graduates.
How stuff was done in the 90's was the mane takeaway for lions, while the intended topic was a very typical rise & fall story.

There was a dumbed down documentary about it, made of stock footage, 4:3 video cropped down to 16:9. It's just philosophy for the masses. The David Hoffman upload had a bit clearer view of what the early 90's looked like.

They managed to capture some potato quality of the only real legacy, the original floating keyboards. They went through a few variations of the dial pad. They had several hardware products, a phone prototype & 3 tablets. 2 tablets came out in 1994 & a 3rd came out in 1998. Kiwipedia only has them producing software, while Sony & Motorola produced the hardware.

Funny that kiwipedia cited handwriting recognition as an essential feature. It did seem to be the way until Steve Jobless showed everyone otherwise. Remarkable how right they were about the floating keyboards in 1994. Handwriting recognition held on until the early 2000's but is completely gone now.

The amount of configurability of the microphone & speaker showed how little they knew.
The art team really held this product hostage, devoting gobs of attention to useless eye candy. All they needed was a text web browser. Getting a web browser to run on it would determine if it was really a missed opportunity.

Like most gadgets today, most of the users were planted product reviewers & well healed investors. Funny how that guy was all set in terms of gear but was crammed into a teeny tiny room. Another reminder of the northwest indoor life.
Very rare today for guys to burn their own money on every latest gadget like that. There's a lot less stuff & a lot less excitement about it. It definitely pivoted to experiences & travel.
Astoundingly expensive for the time, which mass production reduced to $30 before prices started going back up in 2020. Lions were quite amazed by portable programmable things in 1992, but only the programmable aspect.
It continued the lion pondering of the vast amount of 8 bit/DOS/Mac/Win16 software that was developed before 2000 & completely forgotten. The internet has a growing nostalgia for the industry before 2000. Lions manely remember the amount of manual labor required to do very little, the 1am emergency calls, the long hours, the constant crunch mode, the constant mass layoffs, the stacks of printed resumes. It was still a grind.
The problem is all the nostalgic internet commenters are spectators not really working in the industry. Lions have a love hate relationship with the early 90's. It probably would have been more positive than today, because everything was new & foundational. The hardware that a consumer could afford was constantly leaping ahead. Stuff just had to work instead of convey a design language. They didn't have to deal with public key authentication, identity verification, code signing, tokens.
They didn't intimately keep track of what we did with 1-2 meetings every day. An average employee could afford a house right in the middle of everything. There's no incentive to do any more creative work. It's just copied by a language model & never seen in its original form.
Is it really longing for a former state of the industry or a longing for more time? Lions are down to their last 20 years of decent cognitive odds. Less time remanes than the time from birth to college. It didn't cost anything to sit around & tool around PC Paint, in 1988.
The heroine comes across as not very technically literate but 1 of the MIT club which always knew what the right place was, put itself in the right place, & didn't contribute a lot. She got the hell out, after the IPO in 1995. She became the national technology czar under Obama.
The club saw what lions created as pivotal enough to copy it & put their names on it, but it never took off. They eventually got into Tesla, Nvidia, Adobe, sold some businesses of their own.

4x1000 with 60 second breaks. Blew up on the 3rd & then had delusions of grandeur. Posterior tibialis said fuggedabout a sub 8 minute mile.
2 days later, another long one in much colder weather. Mostly back to heal striking. Alternating super hard & walking days was how the posterior tibialis recovered before. Just limited to a 10 minute pace nowadays.
No cramping during the run, but a harrowing experience after lying down. It was a very slow cramping development in the abdomen. Had to roll over to stretch it. Important reminder to have glucose at the ready. The glucose challenges might be from midnight mane feedings or the timing of the leash feedings. Lions aren't fasting as long as they did when sleeping for a contiguous 8 hours but most animals eat 3 meals/day.
Then didn't have any cramping during 90 situps.
