Wagon Master
Wagon Master was considered by some of the internet to be the original free man road trip movie. The catchy title revived a memory of some kind of favorite childhood movie, but no such movie existed. It definitely wasn't the stuff of childhood excitement. The wagons barely roll west at 2x.
They were definitely not free. The trials of water scarcity, Indians, outlaws, road building, overturned wagons & hormones abounded. There were definite echoes of donner party lore.
A re-enactment of such a large wagon train would be impossible now. It would have to be AI generated from past footage. 1950 being that much farther in the past, Monument Valley as it appeared in those days intrigued.
The wagon master was actually 2 wagon masters. The alpha male got the brunette & the beta male got the blondie. In reality, the chearch members wouldn't have anything to do with them & they wouldn't have endured the amount of service expected. Surprised by the lack of any sunday service footage.
Lion knowledge of wagon trains says they used oxen instead of horses for long distances like that. They rode in the wagons as long as possible. They only walked in dire situations.
Teamsters like the wagon masters had a hard life, as stated early in the movie. They were the 1st to go when times got hard.
Presumably, this depicted their arrival at the San Juan valley but the final scenes replayed past footage of them endlessly riding on. It could have been flashbacks.
Noted the same scene slightly more focused in the end.
Amusing exchange, whereby the pilgrims who opposed taking in the strangers threw out the water the stangers took.
Unrealistically difficult traveling depicted with miniatures. It made lions wonder if any wagons really did ascend such a steep, narrow grade.
Lions gathered the final outlaw shootout involved the lead outlaw trying to doom the party by having the elder roll the grain wagon over. The beta wagon master fired the 1st shot to end the conflict.
